2006 was a very busy year for volunteers as more of the site was turned over to crop production than ever before. As well as ensuring that this was the most successful year of the Organic Veg Box Scheme to date, volunteers worked tirelessly, encircling the entire growing area with rabbit-proof fencing. This has been no easy task as every section of fence had to be buried 2 feet underground to prevent the rabbits burrowing underneath. Last year the rabbits were a real thorn in our side, and decimated a number of our crops, so we are very thankful to all who helped with the fencing and look forward to a rabbit free site in the year ahead.
Throughout 2007 the project will be funded by a generous grant from the Woodward Charitable Foundation. Whether you enjoy gardening, maintenance, DIY, conservation or support work, there will be something for you to get involved with. Remember, Mentro Lluest could not continue its valuable work in the community without the volunteers who give up their time for the project.
